Chris Froome Eyeing a Record Fifth Title
It’s fair to say that British cyclist Chris Froome is one of the legends in the sport. He has won the Tour de France four times and has trophies from the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta a Espana as well. That’s before we include the numerous wins in many stage races. The 33-year old currently rides for Team Sky and is widely considered one of the best stage racing riders of all time.
Last year, Froome only managed to get the third spot behind Tom Dumoulin and Geraint Thomas. It was one of his two podium appearances on the Tour de France. Froome was a big favourite to repeat his 2017 success but eventually lost to his compatriot Thomas.
This year, Froome is back as the main favourite for the 2019 edition of the Tour de France. He’s leading the list with odds of 23/20 at Fun88, Ole777, and 10Bet. He’s ahead of last year’s winner Geraint Thomas and second-placed Tom Dumoulin, and even experts are considering Froome to equal Merckx record.

Geraint Thomas raced his way to victory over favourites such as Froome, Sagan (who won the points classification), and Julian Alaphilippe. This year, Thomas has been beaten to the top favourite spot by his compatriot Chris Froome, although some experts think that he should be the main favourite.
Thomas goes for 11/4 at Fun88, and 10Bet, not that far behind Froome. There’s genuine belief among many cycling experts that Thomas may win the Tour de France this year as well, eventually if pressure for a fifth title gets to Froome.

Can Richie Porte Win His First Grand Tour?
Australian rider Richie Porte never had any major success in the Grand Tours. He won one individual stage at the Tour de France last year and won the young rider classification at the Giro d’Italia back in 2010. Apart from those wins, he never won a Tour de France or Vuelta a Espana. Still, he’s considered a dangerous opponent who can win a place on the podium or even win a Grand Tour event with a bit of luck.
For the 2019 Tour de France, Porte has been given odds of 31/4 at Ole777, Fun88, and 10Bet. Those odds don’t make Porte a major favourite, but should Froome, Thomas, and Dumoulin fail to perform at their best, expect Richie Porte to mount a title challenge.

We have to go back to 2005 for the last rider who managed to hold off a charging peloton on the Champs-Élysées. It was Astana boss Aleksandr Vinokourov, but since then the Tour de France boiled down to a thrilling criterium on the cobbles and an ensuing bunch sprint.
Last year, Alexander Kristoff took the spoils and he succeeded Dylan Groenewegen, how had broken the German hegemony in 2017 with his first Tour de France win. André Greipel (2016, 2015) and Marcel Kittel (2014, 2013) ruled on the Champs-Élysées before him, while it was Cavendish territory in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012.
Ewan has been the best sprinter on this Tour so far. He outgunned Dylan Groenewegen and Viviani two times, while the Dutchman and Italian both won one sprint.
Champs-Élysées is French for Elysium, the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and the virtuous in Greek mythology. What a place to end the World’s largest annual sporting event!
