Boxing is one of the most popular sports. If you’ve purchased a punching bag recently or you’re a wannabe boxer, you can learn the sport of boxing from the comfort of your home without spending a dime with the following applications:
Nike Training Club. What would be the top sports apps without sports brands? Nike’s biggest sports. Boxx is an online workout streaming app, which provides you with a good set of online coaches and types for training. It has an excellent training sheet to keep you in the training mood and help you continue to achieve the desired results. Despite its name, the application can offer you not only strength training but also fitness training. In-app purchases available include unlocking extra features and themes. Recommended usage is to follow a technique like Pomodoro or 30/30 as well as GTD. Break up your day into chunks of time and assign some amount of time to each task you want to get done otherwise known as time boxing.
This application teaches kickboxing to its users for free by making them go through various challenges. The challenges are designed for amateur as well as experienced boxers. They teach you various techniques/boxing moves for free. The technique/move is accompanied by an image and a number (the number of times you have to practice the move). You can also see the animation of the same when you tap the “I” icon shown at the right of the image. Once you tap the “Workout” option, Kickboxing Fitness Trainer will play the animation exercises one after another. The application lets users change the order of the exercises. It has a history section, an option to set reminders, a meal planner utility, etc. It also gives you access to several reports.
In Boxhitt, each workout has a set of exercises that should be practiced for a certain duration. As in the above boxing application, Boxhiit categorizes exercises in various categories. You can see the list of workouts in the “Journey” section and on the main interface of the application. The app features a training mode and animations. If you’re preparing for a match, enter training mode. The training workouts/sessions can last for many weeks and the regular boxing workouts can be 10 minutes to 2+ weeks long. Boxhiit enables you to compare the workout logs/history/data. Boxhiit is a nice application. However, it is large and requires account registration.
Boxstastic adds a virtual customizable boxing trainer to your device. When you run it, Boxtstic shows several options on its interface. To see the tutorial on using the app, tap the “Tutorial” option. To disable the gym sound or to disable graphical displays of punch calls, tap the “options” option. To begin your boxing training, tap the “Start Workout” option. Boxtastic ships with six boxing workouts. It also features a timer with options to set the number of rounds, round length, resting time, etc. Once you choose a workout, you’ll be prompted to choose the configure the training settings options. Some of the options you’ll find on this interface are as follows:
Once you change the options, tap the “Start boxercise workout” option. Now, you’ll find an animated virtual trainer on the screen asking to punch on various parts of the punching bag.
This application features 15 boxing lessons. Each lesson comprises of several exercises demonstrated by Michael, a professional boxing instructor. As you can see in the screenshot, you’ll find videos or images of Michael in this application. To learn boxing, all you have to do is follow the instructions/practice the moves.
This application is available for Android devices only. iOS users can watch the YouTube videos uploaded by “Michael the boxer”.
This application lets you create and configure rounds. BRIT lets users set the number of rounds of a match and the duration of each round. It also allows you to specify the resting time. Once you set the timers and tap the play button, BRIT will start the timer and will show the time left for the round to end. The application lets you disable the timer sound. It can also prevent the phone from vibrating.
This apps gives you access to boxing practice clips of a few seconds. The clips are grouped into various levels. To increase the level, you must watch videos of previous levels and favorite them. Each level features different videos. For example, in the 1st level, you’ll find “Defence” and “Punch” clips. Below the clip, you’ll find instructions.
In addition to the above apps, you can watch boxing clips on video streaming sites. YouTube, for example, has over 1000 boxing training videos. Watch the videos and practice the steps to train yourself. Like running apps, the boxing training applications feature animation and tutorials that explain various techniques to the users.
